What is CLAT?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralized national-level entrance examination for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. It is also widely accepted by numerous private law colleges and universities.

Eligibility Criteria

For Undergraduate Courses (LLB):

1. Educational Qualification:
   • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent with a minimum of:
     • 45% marks for General/OBC category.
     • 40% marks for SC/ST category.
2. Age Limit:
   • No upper age limit.
3. Appearing Candidates:
   • Students appearing for Class 12 exams can also apply, provided they meet the eligibility at the time of admission.

For Postgraduate Courses (LLM):

1. Educational Qualification:
   • Candidates must have completed LLB or equivalent with a minimum of:
     • 50% marks for General/OBC category.
     • 45% marks for SC/ST category.
2. Age Limit:
   • No upper age limit.

Exam Pattern

For UG CLAT:

1. Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper)
2. Total Marks: 150
3. Duration: 2 Hours
4. Sections:
   • English Language: 28–32 questions (20% weightage)
   • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: 35–39 questions (25% weightage)
   • Legal Reasoning: 35–39 questions (25% weightage)
   • Logical Reasoning: 28–32 questions (20% weightage)
   • Quantitative Techniques: 13–17 questions (10% weightage)
5. Marking Scheme:
   • +1 for every correct answer.
   • -0.25 for every wrong answer.

For PG CLAT:

1. Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper)
2. Total Marks: 120
3. Duration: 2 Hours
4. Sections:
   • Objective Section: 100 multiple-choice questions.
   • Descriptive Section: 2 essay-type questions.
5. Marking Scheme:
   • +1 for every correct answer.
   • -0.25 for every wrong answer.
