Based on recent announcements and multiple sources, CUET 2025 comes with several major changes aimed at simplifying the exam process, increasing flexibility, and addressing past challenges. Here’s an overview of the key modifications & CUET 2025 major changes.

1. CUET 2025 Major Change in Exam Mode and Duration
- Exclusively Computer-Based:
The exam will now be conducted solely in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, which is expected to streamline operations and reduce technical inconsistencies seen in previous years. - Uniform Timing:
Every paper will have a standardized duration of 60 minutes. This change replaces the earlier mix where some subjects had 45 minutes while others had 60 minutes, ensuring uniformity in time allocation.
2. CUET 2025 Major Change in Reduction and Restructuring of Subjects
- Fewer Subjects Available:
The total number of subjects for the exam has been reduced from 63 to 37. This includes: - Language Subjects: The exam will continue to offer 13 language papers.
- Domain-Specific Subjects: The available domain subjects have been cut from 29 to 23.
- Deleted Subjects:
Approximately 20 foreign language subjects and 6 domain subjects (including Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, and Engineering Graphics) have been removed. For programs related to these discontinued subjects, admissions will now be based on General Aptitude Test (GAT) scores.
3. CUET 2025 Major Change in Subject Flexibility (Class XII)
Choice Flexibility:
Students are now allowed to appear in CUET for any subject irrespective of their Class XII background. This means that candidates can choose subjects outside of what they studied in school, opening up more interdisciplinary options. Subject Selection Limit:
Candidates can select a maximum of 5 subjects (down from 6 previously), encouraging a more focused approach in preparation.
4. Question Format and Evaluation
- Mandatory Response:
All questions in the CUET 2025 exam will be compulsory. Unlike earlier patterns where candidates could choose to answer only a subset of the questions, this change aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of each candidate’s knowledge.
5. Rationale Behind the Changes
- Feedback-Driven Reforms:
Many of these modifications are in response to feedback from students and other stakeholders over the past few years. The expert committee constituted by the UGC reviewed various aspects—ranging from exam structure to logistical issues—and recommended these changes to enhance fairness and transparency in the admissions process. - Streamlining Admissions:
By reducing the number of subjects and standardizing the exam format, the changes are expected to make the evaluation process more straightforward for both candidates and universities, thereby reducing reliance on varied cut-offs and subjective parameters.
Conclusion
The major changes in CUET 2025 reflect an effort to create a more streamlined, efficient, and student-friendly exam process. With a uniform exam duration, fewer subjects, greater flexibility in subject choice, and an all-digital test format, these updates are set to reshape the way candidates prepare for and approach the CUET exam. Candidates are encouraged to review the detailed guidelines released by the UGC and stay updated through official channels.
